Please take note of this message on Blue Lights on the front of Vehicles.
Please advise both your competitors and your scrutineers that they should only be running white lights on the front of their vehicles as per below. A blue forward facing light’s effectiveness depends on a variety of factors (location, size, lumens/wattage etc) and although it may seem beneficial and with good intent, General Requirement article 24 (f) doesn’t specify a blue light; the regulation only references the use of a white light. 24. LIGHTING (6) Each vehicle must have a minimum of a single white forward facing headlamp fitted which comply as a minimum with ADR 46 for a dipped-beam headlamp and which must be illuminated during all competitive sections of the event. It could be argued that in addition to the white headlamp, a blue light could be installed. However, the general rule of thumb is - if it’s not mentioned within the regulations, then it’s not permitted. ‘If it doesn’t say you can, then you can’t’. If competitors were to start fitting lights of all colours to the front of their vehicles, this may cause unnecessary confusion during competition. It was raised at Commission level the possibility of permitting the use of a blue forward facing light, however the Commission decided to review the effectiveness of the rearward facing light first.
